Mathematics

The study of Mathematics is one where students develop skills to analyse and identify patterns and relationships and extend their critical and logical-thinking skills.

Students are encouraged to think laterally and to increase their proficiency in problem solving, a much valued skill in the work place. It could be said that mathematics is weightlifting for the mind!

Topics covered are algebra, calculus, trigonometry, geometry, statistics, probability, measurement, networks, matrices and arithmetic. Students are able to apply these concepts to everyday life. They are also able to further develop their knowledge through investigations and application tasks.

Students are required to purchase a CAS calculator in Year 9 and the use of technology is incorporated into the curriculum right through to the higher levels of Mathematics.

From Year 7 to Year 10, students have access to enrichment material, enabling them to further extend their knowledge and analytical thinking.

Course work can also be modified to suit an individual’s needs.

No matter what level of mathematical ability, there is a VCE subject available to every student.
