At Star of the Sea, we are proud to offer three vibrant and dynamic language programs.
We teach German, Italian and Japanese from Year 7 through to Year 12. Our Language courses offer students a wide variety of cultural and communicative experiences.
Students study two languages in Year 7 and Year 8: they study one language in first semester and the other in second semester.
The study of one language is compulsory at Year 9 although students may continue to study two languages at Year 9 if they wish. Languages are completely optional from Year 10.
At the junior years, the focus is on developing listening and speaking skills. In the senior years, students investigate the structure of their chosen language in more detail in order to be able to express their ideas orally and in writing.
We offer students many opportunities to interact with speakers of their chosen language through a range of visitor sessions, cultural activities and excursions.
Please refer to the pages below for information on each of the three languages.
Senior Language students worked with staff to create this video to encourage younger learners to continue with their Language studies beyond Year 10 …
