Health & Physical Education

Physical Education at Star of the Sea aims to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge that will allow them to lead healthy, active lifestyles both now and in the future.

Through the Health & Physical Education program, each student will acquire the necessary information and skills to look after their physical, social, emotional and mental well-being as they move from adolescence into adulthood.

The Physical Education program provides a wide range of competitive, physical and wellbeing activities with an emphasis on participation and self improvement.
Each student has the opportunity to learn and test herself in a number of activities held at various locations. Students learn the social skills of respect, cooperation and communication as well as teamwork and sportsmanship.

Curriculum

Physical Education classes are compulsory in Year 7 to Year 10.
Physical Education is an extra elective at Year 10.
VCE Physical Education Units 1-4 are available at Year 11 and Year 12.

The Physical Education program incorporates the use of contemporary technologies such as pedometers, video cameras and heart-rate monitors to assist with their learning and understanding, personal performance and the need for physical activity in their lifestyle.

Our Physical Education program is well supported and extended through the extensive sport program.

Star is a founding member of Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) and a long standing member of the Secondary Catholic Sports Association (SCSA). Both of these organisations provide our students with many avenues to extend their talents and skills in a competitive environment.
